HW teacher Sr. Zaragoza and Mr. Brabbee took a select group of HW students on a two week tour of Spain. The group traveled the country by bus and stayed in unique hotels. They studied Spanish at two different language institutes; the first week in Toledo and the second week in Valencia. During their visit to Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Toledo and Segovia students were exposed to the culture, folklore, food and the regional customs of the Spanish people.
“The trip was an incredible experience, unlike any trip I've ever been on. I became good friends with everyone on the trip and made friends with a lot of upperclassmen. My language definitely improved a lot, because when you're put into an environment that actually speaks the language that you're learning, it triggers something wonderful in your brain and you get to submerse yourself in the language, making your speech a little more fluent along the way. We stayed with host families which was also really cool, because we lived in a typical Spanish home for 2 weeks which was surreal. And we saw some great things and got to roam around the city, without people constantly checking in with us and looking over our shoulders. I learned to take initiative and be independent in a new city, find my way around, which was also really cool. All in all, it was incredible. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone because it helped my language for one thing, but also just provided these incredible memories and moments that I'll hold with me for the rest of my life. It was great, and I'm so happy I had the privilege to attend the trip.”
