COSTA RICA 2012
The Costa Rica trip allowed the students to complete 40 hours of classroom instruction and 14 hours of community service at a local child care center affiliated with Centro de Idiomas Intercultura. During their visit students lived with host families in Heredia, Costa Rica allowing them immerse themselves in the Spanish language and Costa Rican culture.
“What I liked most about the Costa Rica trip was getting to know people from HW that I ordinarily would have never talked to. I also really liked being emerged in a new and different culture. I think that the program gave the students a lot of freedom which really helped us explore and learn Costa Rica in our own way. Costa Rica taught me not only how to be self-sufficient (in a new country), but also how to make friends!”

“My experience in Costa Rica was really unique. It was my first time traveling abroad without my parents, I lived with a Costa Rican family, and I'd never had to speak a language 24/7 that wasn't my own. Ultimately, going to Costa Rica with Harvard-Westlake led me to become interested in international relations and learning other languages-- both of which I intend to pursue during in college and beyond.”
